Hi I am Jade from KA Parts. In this video I am going to demonstrate how you can replace the plastic handle and bolt
from a portafilter handle for a KitchenAid Artisan Espresso machine. Model numbers
5KES100, 5KES2102. Here is a portafilter handle. It is made up
of 4 different pieces. You have the
end cap – which seals the plastic handle. plastic handle – which comes in different
styles metal filter basket holder – there are
4 different types of baskets hex flange bolt – which connects the
plastic handle to the metal filter basket holder
To do this you will need the following tools; a flat head screwdriver and a 10 mm T bar long handled socket. You can buy these from online
or any DIY stores. You will also need cotton buds or a wire brush
to clean the bolt and may need penetrating oil and a hex flange bolt if the bolt is rusty. First of all you need the flat head screwdriver
to remove the end cap on the portafilter handle. Gently prize the end cap off, using
the screwdriver against the rim. Place the end cap to the side for later. Now look inside the portafilter handle and
you will see the bolt that needs to be removed next. With the T bar Put the socket down
until it grips the bolt. Start to turn the T bar handle anticlockwise,
you will feel the bolt start to loosen and the handle will come away from the basket as you do it Sometimes it can be stiff if its rusty if you are finding it difficult to remove your bolt because of the rust.
This may happen if you have placed your portafilter In this case you may need to use a penetrating oil or spray to help loosen the bolt. Once
you have applied the spray, leave for the required time before using the T bar handle
and turn anticlockwise. Now the plastic handle can be separated from the metal filter basket Clean the hex flange bolt using a wire brush
and make sure that the hole is clean using cotton buds.
Make sure it’s clean to make sure there is no dust. Now take the new plastic handle and slide it onto the metal filter basket holder. Place
the hex flange bolt onto the end of the T bar
socket and insert into the plastic handle and turn
clockwise until you feel that the bolt is tightened. Then replace the end cap.
Your Your portafilter handle is now repaired. If you have any enquiries
