Coffee… you know… Well, it’s a nice smell, isn’t it? Yeah, it’s a very nice smell. People have told me, ‘This is the best coffee I ever tasted.’ No chemicals or nothing – it’s the real thing. My name is Beardswell. And that’s how Beardswell Coffee came along. I know the whole thing now. I learnt it as I went along. From planting the seedling, to making it for you now. Oh yes, I know every tree. My oldest tree would be, let me see… twenty… twenty three years old. Yes, you have respect for your trees, hey. Some of these trees have a hell of a crop on, here look. Come and have a look, look here. This is very pleasing to the eye. This is what it’s all about, yes, yes. Well, this is the picking season. Some days I pick 20 odd kilos. Well, you pick them and then you’ve got to come home and then you’ve got to put them through the pulper. Let them ferment for two days. And then you wash them out. And then I’ve got to cook my dinner, hey. Why can’t they make a tablet or something where you throw it in a pot and then just pour the boiling water in and that explodes into your dinner you know. I do the best I can, yeah. That’s a good roast. Nice medium roast… nice. I always think that Saint Helena coffee is best when you roast it and you take it out when the second crack starts. I’ve got it down to a fine art now, you know. Oh, the most important thing in life, I think, is the freedom to do whatever you want to. Think for yourself and don’t let somebody else think for you. That’s a wonderful thing. This is great for me. I would never change this, no. When they buy Beardswell coffee it’s only be handled by me and no one else. The demand for Saint Helena coffee, I find, is greater than what I can produce. Yeah, I can’t produce enough. No, it don’t mean nothing to me… retirement. I’ll be 83 come March. I don’t feel like I’m that age. I feel like I’m 16 you know. I see it as a nuisance that you’ve got to leave this world. But that’s the way it is you know. Why can’t you go on and on and on. But no, it’s got to end, and that’s it. You’ve got to accept that you know. I know it’s time for me to pack it in, but I cannot pack it in. Now I’m hooked on this coffee business.
