Here’s another daily tip from your friendly local dermatologist! Let’s talk about caffeine and skin. Now some people might say okay Reagan now you’re out in the weeds, but caffeine affects your brain. It affects your heart. It affects your mood. Otherwise, we wouldn’t be addicted to it, and if caffeine is causing these physiologic changes in every other part of your body then how can it not affect your skin? I’m not saying that drinking coffee or green tea doesn’t have its benefits. I actually drink two cups of green tea every day because of the anti-inflammatory, antioxidative, anti-cancer benefits of green tea. I also drink 1/4 of a cup of coffee a day for the exact same reasons. But I don’t over consume this, because I don’t want the same changes that happen in the blood vessels of all the other organs of our body to happen in my skin at the same time by overconsumption. Plus a lot of people have 4 5 6 10 cups of coffee a day and they never drink water and then you’re gonna be dehydrated and dehydrated skin, well, we all know what that looks like too. So let’s do everything in moderation. Let’s actually look at these things and ask ourselves, are we just feeding a behavior or an addiction, or are we feeding our bodies. Feeding the temple so that it can give us what we need for optimal health? Again, I think there’s lots of really good studies out there about the beneficial effects of coffee and green tea from that anti oxidative, anti-aging, anti-cancer, anti-all sorts of stuff perspective. Let’s just not take it too far. Just like our grandparents said, everything in moderation .
